“Small negatives – big pictures” – Oskar Barnack
How an engineer made an influence on the artist glance.
In 1913 engineer Oskar Barnack created prototype of 35 mm Leica Camera, while he has been working on E. Leitz Optische Werke factory. Barnack used 35 mm movie film, but expanded the size of one frame to 24×36 mm. Oskar asserted that 2:3 ratio is the best and on one film could be placed up to 40 cadres (later the size of the standard film was decreased to 36 cadres).
In such a way over hundred years photographing of different styles and trends moulded the composition thus it would have been looking harmonically in the frame with 2:3 ratio.
So in conclusion just tell me now that engineer is not an art occupation! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Moreover we decided to show you how glorious Leica Camera looks from inside.
