Times Square New Year's Eve Ball

Did you know that the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball is a feat of engineering? The ball is 12 feet in diameter, weighs 11,875 pounds, and is covered with 2,688 Waterford crystal triangles. It travels down a 77-foot flagpole every year to mark the start of the New Year. The engineering behind the ball involves not only the mechanical systems that lower it precisely, but also the lighting systems that make it such a spectacular sight!
