A manufacturer of large gantry-type milling machines provides NC technology for customer-specific workpieces as part of their service offering — covering tool selection, tooling design, and the writing of control programs for complex machining processes. The workpieces in question are large-format components for demanding industrial applications, where a programming error on a part that has taken weeks to machine carries significant consequences. The client required an external partner with the capability to handle NC programming at this scale, alongside mechanical engineering support, within a single team.
GFE provides full-line engineering support covering mechanical design and NC programming in Siemens NX, with all programs validated in Vericut before delivery. The NC programs are developed specifically for large-format gantry machining scenarios — not adapted from lighter machine experience, but built with the operating characteristics of gantry equipment in mind. The engagement has grown steadily since 2021, with the NC programming scope formalised from January 2023. On-site visits are made as required to support direct collaboration with the client’s applications team.

The key fact was they could offer full-line support — from mechanical engineering to NC programming to world-wide on-site commissioning.
Programs are written and validated inside the client’s own CAM environment — using their software, file structure, and naming conventions. No separate system, no format conversion.
Each project is handled by programmers with direct experience on the relevant platform — Siemens NX, SolidCAM, Mastercam, or STUDER.
All programs are collision-checked and validated in Vericut before reaching the machine. This eliminates first-part scrap and reduces setup time on the shop floor.
All team members communicate in English. Senior programmers also speak German, enabling direct coordination with production and quality departments at client facilities in DACH.
